Modern Furniture and Design at the Interior Design Show 2019 in Toronto

Modern Furniture and Design at the Interior Design Show 2019 in Toronto

sohoConcept was able to attend the Interior Design Show 2019 (IDS) in Toronto. This year, the show took place from January 17-20 at the Toronto Metro Convention Centre. We exhibited this year to chat with people about new trends, our latest modern furniture lines, and the future of the design and furniture industry.

We saw so many amazing companies and designers with some ground-breaking and innovative ideas. If the Interior Design Show is an indication of what's to come in the industry, then we are in for a very interesting 2019!

The speakers this year included Ryan Korban, a leading designer and style contributor to the Globe and Mail, and Questlove, a lifestyle and cultural contributor with amazing ideas about how to be inspired and live a creative life. Beth Hitchcock from House & Home magazine, Nam Dang-Mitchel, named House & Home's designer of the year in 2019, and Ali Yaphe of Y&Co. We were blown away by the talent this year and learned a lot about the new players in the Toronto design game.

Highlights from IDS 2019 Toronto

We saw so many amazing designs and innovative ideas at the Interior Design Show this year.

Modern lighting options are growing and growing. We recently blogged about modern lighting and know that 2019 is going to be the year that this explodes onto the scene as a necessary addition to any space.

Something else that caught our eye were some innovative ideas about meeting rooms at offices. It seems that designers are looking for ways to foster more creativity and communication between colleagues through unique designs and room layouts.

Lounge chair trends are changing with more square and sharp edge designs. This isn't something we've seen before, as lounge chairs aren't traditionally made with these “hard” designs. Modern furniture trends and an industrial feel are being brought into the outdoors with these designs.

We loved seeing so many colourful sofa and table designs. At sohoConcept, we've always been a fan of bright colours for furniture and offer many of our pieces in orange, purple, red, and blue fabrics. We saw a lot of very colourful sofa and table designs this year and are excited to see where this goes!

Lastly, we're passionate at sohoConcept about modern furniture for small spaces, and this year compact dining and accent chairs specifically for smaller spaces were a hit. The trend of “tiny living” caught on like wildfire in 2018 so designers are now using creative ways to help people with these lifestyles furnish their homes and businesses.

We're so excited to see what 2019 brings! The Interior Design Show was a great way to kick off the new year and we can't wait to see what else these talented designers (including our owns!) come up
